Norma Elizabeth Deragon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake N.Y.
Norma was the daughter of Robert William Jenks and Norma Hibbard Cope Jenks, and was born June 17, 1952 in Watertown NY.
She is survived by her brother Robert Jenks, his wife Barbara, and their children Candy and Tony Mowry, Cristy Links, John and Lorann Jenks, and Jared Jenks. Twelve grand nieces and nephews survive as well as two great grand nephews. She is also survived by her wonderful cats Izzy and Ozzy.
There will be no funeral or calling hours. Donations in her memory can be made to High Peaks Hospice or the Voluntary Health Association in Saranac Lake. An informal celebration of her life will be held at the home of Tom and Jan Dudones, 70 Petrova Ave, Saranac Lake from 5-7 on Friday, September 13.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, stepfather Rex Thompson, her husband Daniel Deragon, and daughter Danielle Deragon.
She lived as a child in New York City, Dexter Lake in the Adirondacks, and Moira, NY. She attended college. Norma and her husband Danny owned a large Dairy farm in Nicholeville milking over 300 cows.
During her career, she worked as an agent for the US Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Service and the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Farm Credit Association, and North Star Industries. Her last positions were in Saranac Lake doing private duty care and at the American Management Association as a Regional Account Manager of Public Seminars. At AMA she loved working with her clients, and the challenge of finding unique solutions to their training needs.
Norma‘s interests were many and varied. She was passionate about cooking, history, science and antiques and her friends. Her battle with cancer was long and difficult. She had been in treatment for 5+ years, but had been able to live independently until the last week of her life. She gained the admiration of many because of her positive, forward looking attitude, strong will to live, sense of humor and inquiring mind. Many thanks to all who helped with her care over the last years.
