Mary Catherine Fitzpatrick McCarthy 68, of Saranac Lake died on Friday August 8, 2014 at her home.

She was born in Auburn, NY on September 26, 1945. The daughter of Joseph and Stella Fitzpatrick, she attended grade school and high school in Auburn. She was graduated from the Eastman School Dispensary of Dental Hygiene in Rochester, NY and worked in Ithaca and Auburn, NY prior to her marriage.

Mary married Edward McCarthy at Holy Family Church in Auburn, NY on August 26, 1967 and moved to Saranac Lake the following week. Mary served as a Dental Hygienist in Saranac Lake for Walter Taylor, DDS; Paul Ericson, DDS; and Roger Neill, MDD, retiring in 2004.

Mary is survived by her husband of forty-seven years and sons: Brian (Tammy) of Ridgewood, NJ and Sean (Alicia) of Mansfield, MA. and four grandchildren: Brendan Robert, Caitlin Anne, Emily Mary and Kevin Fitzpatrick. Mary’s parents predeceased her as well as brother John, brother Joseph and a sister Alice. She is survived by her sister Marcia Hares of Zephryhills, FL and her brother William and wife Mindy Fitzpatrick of Naples, FL. and brother-in-law Dr. James Mitchell of Auburn, NY.

Mary was an active participant at St. Bernard’s Parish, served as a Lector and taught CCD classes. Mary volunteered for American Red Cross. She enjoyed her time with the Monday Cancer Support Group at Adirondack Medical Center and volunteered with their American Cancer Society’s “Circles of Life” Relay for Life team each September.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Monday August 11, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 12, At St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
