Ilean A Simpson, age 85, of 770 St. Regis Ave., Bloomingdale, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid following a brief illness.

Born in Sugarbush, New York on May 31, 1929, she was the daughter of Royal and Irene (Collins) Tuthill. Ilean, married August Simpson on October 2, 1954 at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale.

Ilean had worked as a rural mail carrier from 1948 to 1961. She also worked as a waitress at the Pine Grove Restaurant for 10 years and as Secretary-Bookkeeper for the assessor’s office for the Town of St. Armand for 12 years until her retirement in 1985.

Ilean was an avid hand quilter and seamstress. She was locally "renowned" for her pies, sharing them with many. She was involved with the Bloomingdale/Vermontville Over 55'ers Club, travelling and dining with them on a regular basis. She was known to play a mean game of Mexican Train/dominoes, and she loved family trips and spending time at the "racino" in Saratoga. Ilean also loved to read and was a big fan of country music.

She is survived by her husband August of Bloomingdale, one son Kenneth Simpson and his wife Ann of Bloomingdale, one daughter Angela Penny and her husband Daniel Penny of Ballston Spa, one brother Francis Tuthill of Bloomingdale and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers Leland, Herman Raymond and Bernard Tuthill, and three sisters Marie Skiff, Rosella Laundry and Teresa Nichols.
