Louise Rogers

Louise Rogers (Ivy Louise Brown) passed peacefully Sunday, March 15, in her residence in the presence and care of her daughter. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario in 1930 to parents William and Daisy (Onley) Brown, Louise was the youngest of seven children. She excelled at her first job at Canada Bell Telephone and quickly became a supervisor, later serving in the Canadian Air Force.

She married Paul E. Vickman and they moved to California where they raised two children.

Louise returned to work as a school administrative assistant and also found time to attend college classes, proudly earning an “A" in psychology. She returned to live in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada and obtained her Real Estate license. Later in life she became an artist, enjoying art classes and creating unusual pieces with a variety of techniques.

Louise is predeceased by her parents, husbands, siblings ─ Bill, Elizabeth (Betty), Hazel, George, Marie and Charles (Chum); a nephew, niece, two great-nephews and a great-niece. She is survived by her children, Laura Hull and Larry Vickman, grandson Joseph Hull, son-in-law David Hull, in-laws and many loving family members and friends.

Louise loved to travel and thought nothing of relocating into new communities, ready to discover what they had to offer. She loved things that were “different,” endeavoring to add her own flair to her surroundings. She loved connecting with people and, even after multiple strokes, found ways to engage and communicate—making lifelong friends across the country and impacting the lives of those who got to know her.

Louise inspires us to remember the important things—that each day is a gift, that each person has something to offer, and that no matter what difficulties present themselves, we can choose to make the most of it, to find the good, to be positive and to keep smiling. She will be dearly missed by many.

Louise also had a special bond with butterflies, so when you see one, remember fondly her laugh and know she is gently reminding you to lighten up!

A memorial service will be held for Louise March 23rd at 11am at Hetherington& Deans Funeral Home in Niagara Falls, followed by burial at Fairview Cemetery. Local arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
