Kristin Gayle Greene, 71, of Saranac Lake and Sidney, NY passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2011 at her home with her beloved husband Allen by her side.
Kristin was born on September 30, 1939 in Cooperstown, NY to the late Bernard Leroy and Elsie Elizabeth Mathewson.
Kristin attended Sidney Central School Class of 1957. She continued her education obtaining a degree in Business Administration and multiple Certificates of Achievements.
Kristin married James S. Philpott, Jr of Sidney, NY they were together for 22 years.
In 1979 Kristin married Allen L. Greene, also of Sidney, NY after they had relocated to Saranac Lake, NY in 1976.
She retired from New York State after 21 years of service. She also worked for North Country Home Services as a financial manager, The Catskill Travel Agency of Sidney, NY and she worked in automotive sales for several years.
Kris volunteered her services for the Division of Youth-Detenetion Services where she was a foster mother to teenage kids, until they were placed. She also served on the board of directors for past Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committees and the Crisis Intervention Center. She volunteered for the 1979 Lake Placid World Cup event and also the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games as a Pageantry Coordinator. Kris continued with volunteer work for the local Hospice Program. She was a dedicated member of the Women of
The Moose Local Chapter 1090 and the American Legion Auxiliary.
When Kris was not volunteering her services she enjoyed reading, baking, bowling, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family and friends.
Kris is survived by her loving husband Allen L. Greene, her four children Lorraine and David Thompson of Walton, NY, Mark and Debra Philpott of Sidney, NY, Ron Philpott of Saranac Lake, NY and Karen and Dan Woodruff of Saranac Lake. Kris also has a step-daughter Holly L. Greene of Alvin, TX. She also has seven grandchildren, Melissa, Cecilia and David Thompson, Nicole and Katelyn Philpott and Chelsi and Daniel Woodruff, five Great-Grandchildren and several neices and nephews. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
Kris was predeceased by her brother Gordan Mathewson. She is survived by her brothers Brian and Carol of Frederick, MD, Robert and Constance of Mustang, OK and Eric and Marsha of Mattydale, NY.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday May 10, 2011 from 5-7 at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St. Saranac Lake, NY 12983. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Internment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Historic Evergreen Cemetery in White Store, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to International Women of the Moose, c/o Chapter 1909, Saranac Lake, NY or to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society, 255 George Lapan Memorial Hwy, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
