Agatha “Aggie” Oehler Sullivan, age 89, of Vermontville, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025.Born in Lake Clear, New York on September 27, 1935, she was the daughter of Karl and Florence (Dupont) Oehler. She married her soulmate, Peter H. Sullivan at St. John’s Church in Lake Clear on August 20, 1966. They shared over 50 years together before he predeceased her on January 5, 2017.
Aggie was a lifelong resident of the area, growing up in Lake Clear and later moving to Saranac Lake and Vermontville. From a young age she worked with her father on the New York Central Railroad in Lake Clear and later in life loved sharing her memories of that time with her family and friends. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Paul Smith’s Electric Company, an administrative assistant for St. Bernard’s School, and in food service at Petrova Middle School before her retirement. She was an active member of the North Country Community College Chorale, the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, and St. Bernard’s Parish. However, Aggie took up her favorite job – grandma – after she retired. She could often be seen volunteering on the playground at St. Bernard’s School, watching her grandchildren at the rink or on the field, and taking long walks around Saranac Lake, always with Peter.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Sullivan (Felicia Neahr) of Vermontville, two grandchildren Bridgit Sullivan of Washington, DC, and Bryan Sullivan of Vermontville, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, two brothers Allen and Paul, and four sisters, Rita, Priscilla, Theresa, and Monica June.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 4-6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at St. Bernard’s Church. A burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear later in the year.
