Hubert Cortez Avery, age 90, formerly of 14 Kiwassa Rd. Saranac Lake, NY died Monday, December 08, 2008 at the AMC-Mercy Health Care Facility in Tupper Lake.
Born in Westville, New York on December 05, 1918, he was the son of Herman and Ella (Hoadley) Avery. He married Esther Tracy on October 10, 1964 in Hallstead, PA. She predeceased him in 2001.
Mr. Avery graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone on June 22, 1937. Mr. Avery is a veteran of WWll serving in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He worked at ALCOA in Massena. He worked for a few years in Rochester and Syracuse and lived for many years in Lake Placid. He was a school bus driver for the Saranac Lake Central School District for eight years until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Avery enjoyed golf and fishing. Hubert was most happy during his more than 61 years involved in the Christian Ministry.
Hubert is survived by one sister Elsa Reynolds and her husband Carl of Westville, NY, and one brother Eldred Avery and his wife Myrtle of Syracuse, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and four brothers, Wayne, Wesley, Ralph and Charles and one sister, Marion.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will be take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday December 13, 2008 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Saranac Lake. Burial will take place at the Coal Hill Cemetery in Westville at the convenience of the family.
