Elliody Bickford

Elliody Marie Bickford, age 86, died peacefully Sunday August 1, 2021 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.

Elliody was born on February 10, 1935 in Vermontville, NY one of nine children born to Herbert and Florence (Aubin) Shene. She married Kendall N. Bickford on November 24, 1951 in Lake Placid, NY.

Elliody attended Saranac Lake High School and taught herself how to play guitar. While Kendall was deployed to Korea as a US Marine, Elliody sang on WNBZ radio with her brother Almond in a small band called “The Hay Loft Jamboree”. Kendall returned in 1953 and they started a family. Elliody was a homemaker and raised her five children.

Elliody went to work at the Adirondack Medical Center in 1984 and worked there for 14 years as an Environmental Services Technician. She retired in 1998. Elliody loved the outdoors and one would usually find her out in her garden, she also did a lot of canning of the vegetables she grew. Elliody also loved playing guitar and writing music, many of her songs were sung on Sunday mornings in the Church she attended. Elliody also loved snowshoeing with Kendall out in back of their home in Vermontville and raising chickens.

Elliody is survived by her children: Warren Bickford of Vermontville, NY, Wendall (Kim) Bickford of Rainbow Lake, Dawn Rowell of Saranac Lake and Vicky (Joey) Powell of Freeman, VA. One sister Laurel Giddings of Vermontville, two brothers: Almond Shene of Oklahoma and Garry Shene of Bloomingdale, NY as well as 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Elliody was predeceased by her husband Kendell, her mother and father, her daughter Tina LeClair, her sister Bertha Sawyer and her four brothers Carl, Alton, Malcom, and Claude.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. At Elliody’s request there will be no calling hours and services will be private and at the convenience of her family.
