Dorothy Charland

Dorothy Elizabeth Charland, age 88, of Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake where she had been a resident since September of 2014.

Born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on April 01, 1927, she was the daughter of Stanley and Mildred (Connor) Wojciak. Dorothy married Frederick Joseph Charland on October 5, 1946 in Saranac Lake. He predeceased her on July 5, 2000.

Dorothy was a member of St. Bernard’s Church and the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard. She especially loved raising her family. Dorothy had worked for several years part time at the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and had provide child care in her home for many years.

She is survived by 4 daughters Bonnie Charland of Ilion, NY, Christine Lamere and her husband Fred of Tupper Lake, NY, Michelle Williams and her husband Gerard of Paul Smiths, NY, Heather Sinos and her companion Cary McCord of Palm Harbor, FL, two sons Michael Charland and his wife Diane of Saranac Lake and Barton Charland and his companion Shelley Bouyea of West Chazy, NY, 15 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter Deirdre "Dee Dee" Badore, one sister Jean and five brothers David, Jim, Stanley Neil and Donald Wojciak.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A Catholic Daughters service will take place Friday evening at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday August 22, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Thomas Higman officiating. Burial will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Tupper Lake. A reception will follow at the Tupper Lake VFW.
