Ruth I. Collins, age 82, formerly of Overlook Apartments, Bloomingdale, NY, died Wednesday, September 03, 2008 at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone where she had resided for the past 8 years.
Born in Moira, New York on November 05, 1925, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Ruby (Clooky) Trushaw. She married Isadore Collins on October 8, 1946 at the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford, NY. He predeceased her in 1992.
Mrs. Collins worked as a waitress at Bernie Wilson's Restaurant in Saranac Lake for several years. Ruth, along with her husband, owned and operated Zeke's Club in Redford, NY from 1957-1962. They also owned and operated Zeke's Inn in South Colton from 1963 -1972. She was later employed as a tax collector for the town of Franklin for eight years and was last employed at Alice's Restaurant in Saranac Lake for many years.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Ames and her husband John of Canton, NY, Donna Buckley and husband Richard of Loon Lake, NY, and Joan Demers and her husband James of Constable, NY, two sisters Harriet DaBolt of Cattaraugus, NY and Irene Bryant of Saranac Lake, NY, four grandsons John Buckley of Bloomingdale, NY, Michael Collins of Oakdale, CT, Patrick Collins of Norwich, NY, and James Demers, Jr. of Constable, NY, one granddaughter Leann Hance of Elmira, NY, 2 great granddaughters, 7 great grandsons, and 2 great- great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and one sister Joyce Fleury.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, NY on Friday September 5, 2008 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 6, 2008 at Church of the Assumption in Redford. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Redford.
