Marion Daby

July 19, 1913 — November 8, 2009

Marion Kimball Daby, of Greenwood Apartments, died Sunday, November 8, 2009 at her home in Lake Placid.

She was born on July 19, 1913 in Mineville, New York the daughter of Herbert Lee Kimball and Ethel P. Kimball. She graduated Lake Placid High School Class of 1931; Mount Sinai School of Nursing, New York City in 1936 as an R.N.; did post-graduate studies at Teacher’s College, Columbia University; Brooklyn Visiting Nurse Association; Mt. Morris Tuberculosis Hospital and at SUNY, Plattsburgh.

She was supervisor at Mount Sinai in Pediatric and Surgical Pavilions and then as Hospital Night Supervisor until her return to Lake Placid. Mrs. Daby did Public Health Nursing for Essex County, was Resident Nurse for the Lake Placid Club; taught home nursing for the American Red Cross; was office nurse for Dr. George Hart; Certified School Nurse - Teacher at Lake Placid Central School until her retirement in 1975.

In 1979 Marion became involved with Senior Housing and processed applications for residents in The Greenwood which opened in 1980. She was the Greenwoods first resident. She then went on to become Manager and later served a Social Services and Activities Director for several years.

Marion has been an active life time member of the Adirondack Community Church, Nursing Educational Memorial Fund, serving as President, former member of Lake Placid Garden Club - serving several terms as Secretary, member of the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, she was a Grass Roots Republican, life member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Lake Placid Senior Citizens and AARP. She enjoyed reading, world travel and her family.

Marion married Francis A. Daby in Delmar, New York on June 17, 1943. Her husband died on February 2, 1964. Her close companion of 21 years, John P. Clancy, died in January 2001.

Marion is survived by two sons Kimball W. Daby (and his wife Patricia) and Gary F. Daby; four grandsons: Kimball F. Daby (and his wife Heidi), Mark W. Daby, Francis N. Daby (and his wife Julia), and Gary Daby, II (and his wife Emily); three great grandchildren: Maeve Daby, Anabell Corwin and Eben Daby all of Lake Placid, New York and Gary Daby, III of Bloomingdale.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Adirondack Community Church with Rev. Mark Demers Officiating at 11:00 A.M., the family will greet friends at 10:30 A.M. Internment will take place at the convenience of the family in North Elba Cemetery.
