Margaret Dalheim

April 16, 1927 — June 10, 2015

Margaret Sarah Dalheim, age 88, of Saranac Lake, died on Wednesday June 10, 2015.

Born in Troy, New York, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Elizabeth Lester. Margaret married James H. Dalheim on April 16, 1949 in Lansingburgh, New York.

Mrs. Dalheim was a resident of Saranac Lake for the past 18 years coming from Latham, NY where she was a resident until 1998. Margaret, her husband Jim, and family were summer residents of Upper Saranac Lake for 50 years before Margaret and Jim moved here permanently. When first married, Margaret worked for Behr-Manning in Watervliet. Later on she worked for many years for the Town of Colonie Water Department. Margaret was an accomplished artist – exhibited in her sewing, beautifully decorated cakes, paintings, and very special cards and calendars uniquely designed for each recipient. She began volunteering for the Red Cross in hospitals as a Gray Lady after WWII, then continued with the Red Cross, caring for and transporting handicapped children while her own children were young. In recent years, she continued with her spirit of giving delivering “meals-on-wheels” to people across the North Country. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, often working full time while also caring for her home and family. She was a gracious hostess, superb cook, and she and Jim always made people feel welcome in their home.

She is survived by her husband, James Hamilton Dalheim; daughters Peggy Ann Dalheim of Colorado, and Patricia Jane Roberts of Georgia; and one grandson, Arden James Roberts. She was preceded in death by her brothers Donald and Howard Lester.
