David “Red” Hogle, age 83 years old, passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day December 25, 2025, with his wife Marilyn and daughter Doreen at his side. His last day was spent with family and friends, often at his side offering love and comfort, a wonderful blessing to him.
Red was born in Plattsburgh, NY to Darrell Linn Hogle and Mary Kingsbury Hogle. He grew up in Mooers, NY with his brothers Robert, Michael, Hugh and Patrick. Red married Marilyn Dapolito in Clyde, NY. The celebrated 60 years of marriage in October 2025.
A master machinist, mechanic, and welder he learned his trade while working at Pratt & Whitney and large Chevy Dealerships in Hartford, CT. In 1971, the family moved to Saranac Lake, NY and he continued to work in auto mechanics, operating North Foyer Gas and Auto Repair during the 1980 winter Olympics and then continuing with Red’s Repair at his home auto shop. Often he could be found blasting the music and working late into the night on a special project such as a U.S. Navy Bobsled or his 1955 Chevy and 327 engine.
He enjoyed visiting with friends anytime of the day. He had a great sense of humor and always the life of the party. Red was a very caring man and never turned anyone who asked for help away.
Red loved his family dearly and was a true friend. He loved adventure, the outdoors and all of God’s creation.
Red is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughters Doreen Hogle-Hayes (Gene Reynolds) and Beth Ann Hogle, grandchildren Kelly Hayes Peckham (Howard), Melody Hayes and Mary Hayes (Moe Mbaye), great grandchildren Jonah and Aria Peckham and Major Mbaye.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Robert and Patrick.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of David’s (“Red’s”) life will be held in the spring when the flowers bloom again!
