Diane G. Burman

February 3, 1951 — April 29, 2026

Bloomingdale

Diane Grace Burman, age 75, of Bloomingdale, died Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at her home.

Born in Gouverneur, New York on February 3, 1951, she was the daughter of Wayne and Marjorie (Smith) Foeppel. Diane married Thomas Burman on July 2, 2016 in Saranac Lake.

Diane attended Gouverneur High School Class of 1969, but did not graduate with the class. She later earned her GED and subsequently attended NCCC, class of 1996, where she was elected by her classmates to represent them on the College Board of Trustees. She won a full scholarship from PACE UNIVERSITY in NYC and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Magna Cum Laude, Class of 2003.

Diane loved children and treated all the children in her day care as her own. She kept track of them all even after she closed the business. She cried and prayed for them on their disappointments and celebrated their achievements. As a den mother and officer of Cub Scout Pack 9 Saranac Lake she instituted the winter carnival button flags that are carried by the Cub Scouts in the parade to this day. She also participated in local education and was a former member of St Bernard’s PTA and school council.

After graduation from Pace, Diane worked as HR manager of a Brooklyn based housing company and then as a real-estate agent for Weichert Realtors of Westchester County where she earned Westchester County Realtors Rookie of the Year. Selling real estate was Diane’s favorite job as she loved helping people and had a deep interest in old buildings. When we moved back home to Saranac Lake Diane remained in the real estate business working at Adirondack Country Homes until her mobility challenges made it too difficult to continue.

Diane also enjoyed her work as cashier at Hyde Mobil convenience store, and bank teller/ Customer Service Representative at NBT bank in Saranac Lake.

Her hobbies included shooting, needle work, crochet, knitting, gardening, and photography. But her main hobby interest was the renovation project of our apartment building in Bloomingdale.

She was active in the community serving a term as President of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Depart Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the St Armand Youth task Force. Diane also participated in politics as secretary/treasurer of the St. Armand Republican committee and election poll worker.

Diane was active in national politics as the press relations officer for the Second Amendment Sister 2001 rally in Washington DC. The Second Amendment Sisters staged a rally and marched in Washington DC in opposition to the Million Mom March. The SAS rally caught the attention of Congress and provided much needed support for those members of congress that supported second amendment rights. It also helped promote gun ownership by women for self-defense purposes. After the rally Diane continued on as National Coordinator for SAS.

Diane is survived by her husband Thomas of Bloomingdale, NY, one son Joseph A. McKeough of Lake Placid, two brothers Mark (Alice) Foeppel of Scottsdale, VA and Andrew Foeppel of Syracuse, NY, four sisters Peggy Lee Foeppel, Barbara Ann Eyrse of Bellingham, WA, Vicki J. (Michael) Cangello of New York Mills, NY and Susan Ellinwood of Syracuse, NY, two step children Victor (Darcy) Burman and Patrick (Holly) Burman, 3 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
