Gordon R. Gonyea, age 71, of 1235 County Route 60, Vermontville, NY died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at his home following a short illness.
Born in Tupper Lake, New York on August 26, 1938, he was the son of Wilfred and Lydia (Miller) Gonyea.
Gordon had been employed as a lumber Jack for many years for various companies in Tupper Lake, NY. He also worked for Sonny's Farm Market for 20 years in Watertown, NY. He enjoyed fishing; gardening, especially his strawberries and he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Marie of Vermontville, five children Diana Lenker and her husband Jim of Florida, Gordon Gonyea, Jr. of Tupper Lake, NY, Christina Gonyea of Tupper Lake, NY, Shelia Gonyea of Tupper Lake, NY, and Patty Ann Gonyea of Tupper Lake, NY, four step children William Hinkley of North Carolina, NY, Brian Hinkley and his wife Patty of Saranac Lake, NY, James Hinkley of Saranac Lake, NY, Tina Russell and her husband Brian of North Carolina, NC, and several niece and nephews and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Wilfred Gonyea, his mother Lydia Miller, five brothers Louis, Richard, William, Leonard, and Maynard Gonyea.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 2PM -4PM and 6PM - 7:45PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:45 PM at the funeral home on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the spring in Union Cemetery in Vermontville, NY.
