Henry LaPan, born July 20, 1940 in Champlain NY, the son of Francis and Maude LaPan, passed away on August 18, 2026 in his home.
Henry was a humble, genuine man with a wonderful sense of humor, a strong will, and an infectious smile and laugh. He enjoyed the simple things in life, scratch off tickets, Russell Stover chocolates, soda, chewing gum, comfortable rocking chairs, Kitty Wells music, and spending time with the people he loved.
Henry was a hard worker and took pride in his work. Spending 16 years working at a Chinese restaurant, where he became a familiar and dedicated presence.
Henry was proud of where he came from, his faith, and his Abenaki heritage. His family’s connection to the Abenaki community, was meaningful to him, and he especially enjoyed attending powwows and celebrating his heritage.
Henry was predeceased by his parents; his four brothers, Edward, Francis, Frederick, and Lester; and his four sisters, Agnes, Joyce, Theresa, and Catherine. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, including his nieces Denise Enberg and Lori Kling, with whom he shared an especially close relationship. Along with many people who shared in his daily life, adventures and laughter over the years Henry will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his loyalty, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Calling hours will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Thursday August 27, 2026 from 10-11am. A prayer service will take place at 10:45 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Martin Cline officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Champlain. A celebration of life will take place Friday 8/28 at 54 Trudeau Road in Saranac Lake from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
