ione "Nonie" Webb

Sep 23, 1938 — Nov 2, 2026

Saranac Lake

Ione “Nonie” Webb, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2026, at her home in Saranac Lake, New York.

Born on September 23, 1938, in Saranac Lake, Nonie was the daughter of the late Willard and Irene Gillmett. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Plattsburgh.

On July 8, 1961, Nonie married Mickey (Marcel) Webb at St. John’s in the Wilderness Catholic Church in Lake Clear, New York. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, raising their family in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Nonie devoted much of her life to education, teaching in Queensbury, Galway, and Saratoga Springs. She had a special gift for connecting with children and a genuine belief in their potential. She developed the original childcare program at Skidmore College and served as its director, helping lay the foundation for its approach to early childhood education. Among her proudest accomplishments was the Intergenerational Program she created between Skidmore College and Wesley Nursing Home, bringing children and older adults together in a way that enriched both generations.

As much as she loved teaching, nothing meant more to Nonie than her family and the joy of being together. She is survived by her husband, Marcel “Mickey”; her children, Michael (Christine) Webb and Michelle (Wayne) McDougall; her grandchildren, Haley (Dave) Darrigo, Trey (Taylor) McDougall, and Michael Webb Jr.; her great-granddaughter, Gianna Darrigo; and her siblings, Martha Heading and Jerry Gillmett. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nonie loved being surrounded by family and friends, and few things made her happier than bringing everyone together for a good party, plenty of laughter, and a little friendly competition. She never met a game she didn’t want to play, and she and Mickey were quite a pair on the dance floor. Always thoughtful and prepared, Nonie was known to have her Christmas cards ready to go before Halloween even arrived. She had a wonderful zest for life, and her enthusiasm made every gathering a little more special.

A fierce New York Yankees fan, Nonie followed her team with unwavering passion. She treasured days at the Saratoga Race Track and evenings at Casa del Sol, especially when they included a Cadillac Margarita.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Maria, Meg, Lyndsay, Shante, Britney, Kelly, Carrine, Lisa, Laurie, and Mo for their devoted care and compassion over the last few years. Your kindness brought comfort to Nonie and meant more to her family than words can express.

Nonie leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories, the countless lives she touched through her teaching, and a family that will always remember her love of life. She will be missed whenever family gathers, a game begins, the Yankees take the field, or the music starts playing.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2027, with the date and details to be announced.
