James D. Courtney age 65, of Xenia, Ohio died on Monday January 5, 2026 at his home following a brief illness.

James was born on June 9, 1960 the son of James E. and Geneva (Perras) Courtney.

James grew up in Saranac Lake and had attended and graduated from the Saranac Lake High School. While living in Saranac Lake he was employed at Newman & Holmes and later fot Tri-Lakes Ford as a Master Mechanic. James has been a resident of Ohio for over 30 years where he

Worked for HK Systems as an automation and robotics field manager. He also opened up his own home hobby shop (mechanics). He was known for his mechanical skills, steady work ethic, and his ability to fix what others could not

James especially enjoyed anything involving his grandchildren, being outdoors, camping and anything involving automotive. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his bunny Panda.

He is survived by his one son Brian (Jamylin) Gardner, 2 grandchildren Autumn and Gunner,

his life partner Louise Palmer and her daughters Angie Hoersting, Libby Powers, Millie Penrod and Rose Hoersting all of Xenia OH along with several children/grandchildren

James is also survived by his brothers and sisters Randy Courtney (Diane Stamm), Jeanette (Brian) Barden, Timothy Courtney, Alice (Rick) Sofield, Tammy (Frank) Landerway and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Judy Vercek and Lynn Smith, and his niece Kristie Smith.

"Grandpa Jim" will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, and family man who's knowledge was endless

Local funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A graveside service will take place at a later date to be announced.
