Karen C. Grant

Karen C. Grant, age 82 of Rainbow Lake, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday July 19, 2026 at Elderwood of Uihlein in Lake Placid with her family by her side.

She was born in Lansingburgh, NY on October 15, 1943 the daughter of George Lempe Clempson and Laurie Flint Clempson.

After graduating from high school in San Diego, CA, she attended Loma Linda University - graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1965.

After graduating from college, Karen returned to the East Coast and married her childhood friend and sweetheart Daniel A. Grant on Christmas Day 1965 while he was home on leave from the Navy. They enjoyed a brief honeymoon in Lake Placid.

Karen was employed by United Cerebral Palsy from 1966 - 1981, including directing UCPs Preparation for Advancement into the Community Environment (PACE) program. She then worked for NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in various assignments from 1981 until retirement in 2005.

After retiring, Karen and her husband built a home in Rainbow Lake, NY where they could be close to their kids and all of the things they loved to do, including camping with dear friends, boating, and fishing.

Karen was an accomplished quilter, and treasured her time spent with her friends in Pine Tree Quilters and the many long weekends spent at quilting retreats in Blue Mountain Lake, Ogdensburg, and elsewhere. Her legacy lives on in the countless quilts she gifted to family and friends, and donated to charity.

Karen is survived by her son Dustin (Christine) Grant of Lake Placid, NY, her daughter Lori (William) Schneider of Saranac Lake, NY, and her sister Sandra Watson. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Dan, in March 2023

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no services.
