James Keating

James A. Keatng, age 89, of 14 Kiwassa Road (Lake Flower Apartments), Saranac Lake, NY died Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center of Saranac Lake, NY following a long history of heart ailment.

Born in New York City, New York on May 11, 1919, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keatng. He married Helen Fleming who predeceased him. He later married Mary Catherine Wille on February 22, 1991 in Flushing, NY. She predeceased him.

Mr. Keating is a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II from 1941 to 1945. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge and became a prisoner of war in Germany. After the war he was employed by Pan American Airways in airline maintenance in Flushing, NY until his retirement. Mr. Keating had been a resident of Saranac Lake for 11 years coming from Flushing, NY and had resided on Rockland Ave. He later moved with his wife Mary, to Willow Way Apartments until her death two years ago. He had been a resident of Lake Flower Apartments for the past two years. Mr. Keating along with his wife Mary had been very active volunteers at the Saranac Lake Ault Center. He continued volunteering there after her death as a dependable daily volunteer. First as a bus monitor, later helped in the dining room and the Senior Outlook Newspaper.

He is survived by many close friends including Janet Finley of Saranac Lake, NY, Rip and Shirley Allen of Saranac Lake, NY, the Kilroy Family also of Saranac Lake, NY and all his friends at the Saranac Lake Adult Center. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, November 7, 2008 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. A Veterans Service will take place at 3:45 PM at the Fortune - Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday afternoon. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:00 AM on Saturday November 8, 2008.. Following cremation burial will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
