Saranac Lake

Kenneth Paul Pickreign, Sr., age 87, of Saranac Lake, died Sunday March 8, 2026 at his home.

Born in Champlain, New York on August 31, 1938, he was the son of Joseph and Lucille (Bushey) Pickreign.

Ken’s family moved and settled in Saranac Lake where he attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1955 to 1958 and had lived in West Springfield for several years before moving his family back to Saranac Lake in 1974. Ken owned and operated Ken’s Bar, had worked for Torrington Construction, owned and operated his own painting business and drove a limo during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid for Jamie Farr, who played the part of Cpl. Maxwell Clinger on the TV hit series M.A.S.H. Ken later worked for Hyde Fuel Company in Saranac Lake for many years as a truck driver until his retirement in 1994.

Ken was a life member and past Governor of the Saranac Lake Moose Lodge #457, coached women's softball, and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Township 19 Sportsman Club for over 40 years.

He is survived by two sons Kenneth (Linda) Pickreign, Jr. of Constable and Jeffery Pickreign of Saranac Lake, one daughter Sue Amell of Belmont, NC, 9 grandchildren, including Chad Amell who took care of him when his health began to fail, 8 great grandchildren one sister Clemos Tanzini of Saranac Lake, a son Travis McDonald of Vermontville, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife Beverly Pickreign currently of Saranac Lake, NY whom he married on November 22, 1962. He also leaves behind his good friend, Bryan Amell, Malone, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Joseph and Edgar Pickreign and and three sisters Helen Chase, Donna Tappen, and Patricia Pickreign.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac

Lake. A graveside service will take place at the Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake at a later date to be announced.
