OBITUARY NOTICE

John C. Knight, Jr. of 48 Old Lake Colby Road in Saranac Lake, passed away peacefully at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake on July 17, 2009. He was born in Lake Placid on July 24, 1941, the son of Lenore (Hayes) and John C. Knight Sr. He attended the Saranac Lake High School and graduated from the Lake Placid High School in 1960. Jack then entered the Army in 1961 and spent two years In Germany working with the Redstone Missile Program.

He was an accomplished self taught musician playing the piano like Floyd Cramer and the guitar like Chet Atkins. He played in an Army group in Germany. He played in bands here with Pat McCormick, Doug Kenny and Billy Huggins.

He became an Adirondack Guide and went on to spend time working for the DEC. He spent many days in the summer and winter months at his camp in McKenzie Pond. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors.

Jack was an excellent athlete in both baseball and fast pitch softball. Later on in life he turned to making Adirondack Pack Baskets and other Adirondack crafts.

On February 14, 1987, he married Mollie Mellon in Saranac Lake. .

Jack is survived by his wife Mollie, his brother-in-law Anthony Mellon and his son Douglas, his sister-in -law Isabel Mellon, her husband Gary Kaplan, a sister Katherine Knight-Perry and a brother Clark M. Knight and his wife Peggy all of St. Petersburg, Florida., another brother James C. Knight Sr. and his wife Nan of Saranac Lake and their son James C. Knight Jr. and his wife Sara of Altona, New York. He is also survived by a niece, Anika Grace Knight, a nephew Nolan James Knight also of Altona, New York. He was also pre-deceased by his mother and father and grand-mother Catherine A. Hayes, grand-father Clark A. Hayes and a sister, Marguerite Knight.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A veterans service will take place at 7:30PM Tuesday. A funeral service will be held 2PM Wednesday at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Spear, Pastor of the Adirondack Presbyterian Church in Lake Clear, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lake Clear with full military honors..

Memorial donations for John C. Knight may be made to the Saranac Lake Animal Shelter or a charity of ones choice in care of the funeral home.
