Carmelo R. Longo, 95, beloved father and grandfather passed away August 26, 2023, at Will Rogers.
He was born July 20, 1928, in Poughkeepsie, NY the son of Carmelo R. and Mary Louise Longo.
Carmen made his way upstate as a young man working as a cook on the Hudson River Dayline Ship. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers in Korea, during the Korean War. After the war he married and had three children, Christopher, Mark and Robin.
On March 9, 1972 he remarried the love of his life, Norma Jean Norris and celebrated over 40 wonderful years of marriage. Carmen was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered at many community organizations and Catholic Ministries. He enjoyed fishing, but was best known for his dedication to his family and friends, not to mention he was the best Italian Chef in the Adironacks!
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Rita and Connie and his granddaughter Britney Lauren.
Surviving are his sons, Christopher Longo, Mark Longo , daughter Robin Princiotto and her husband Vincent, six grandchildren, Ashley Lomio, Alexander Princiotto, Erica Lomio, Giovonna Anderson, Brian Luke and Mary Luke; and great grandchildren, Carmelo Lauren, Gio, Gianna, and Alonzo, III.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 9, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Church, 27 St. Bernard Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville, NY. A celebration of life will follow the interment at Saranac Village at Will Rogers in the Great Room from 2:00 pm to 4:00 PM.
