Winchester H. MacDowell, age 90, of Saranac Lake, NY pass away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the AMC-Uihlein in Lake Placid.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on December 29, 1918, he was the son of Winchester and Clara (Brown) MacDowell Sr. He married Charmion Maloney on April 23, 1943.
Following graduation from Saranac Lake High School he worked in several jobs in the area including Trudeau and Ray Brook TB Sanitariums. He later worked at Rochester Products and General Motors in Rochester, NY as a machinist. He served two years in the Merchant Marines in the US Maritime Service during World War II. He retired from Camp Adirondack in Ray Brook as a Stationary Engineer after 30 years in the power house. Winchester MacDowell was a life time member of the Masonic Whiteface Mt. Lodge # 789, CSEA, was an avid sportsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 Years Charmion Maloney, sisters June Strack, Thelma Lussi, Naoma Quigley Martin and one brother Bruce MacDowell.
He is survived by his children Marsha Morgan and her husband Steve, Brad MacDowell, Terry MacDowell and his wife Theresa, Debra Titus and her husband Jim, five grandchildren Erin Kilroy and her husband Shane, Ryan Morgan Whitney Morgan, Zachary MacDowell and Phoebe McCaffery, four great grandchildren Morgan and Megan Kilroy and Ryley and enna Morgan and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A family service was held on Sunday April 26th. His ashes will be scattered at MacDowell Bay (his favorite spot) at a later date.
