Gerald Macey

Gerald V. Macey, age 86, of 286 County Route 47, Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, March 03, 2015 at AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Born in Vermontville, New York on March 05, 1928, he was the son of Victor and Mary (Duckette) Macey. Gerald married Therese St. Dennis on May 25, 1974 in St. Bernard's Church.

Gerald is a lifelong resident of the Saranac Lake area and had been employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Truck Driver for Maddens Transfer and Storage for over 50 years until his retirement in 2007. Prior to that he drove Taxi for Jimmy Tanzini from 1944 to 1946. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II as a truck driver stationed with the Army of Occupation in Italy. He hauled men, equipment, rations and supplies. Gerald was a member of the Saranac Lake Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #3357.

He is survived by his wife Therese Macey of Saranac Lake, one son Gerald Macey of Saranac Lake, one daughter Diane Bezio and her husband Rick of Keeseville, one step son Orville Benedict and one step daughter Diane Benedict both of Montreal, 3 Grandchildren Ashley Macey, Lindsay Nixon, and Tiffany Killian and her husband Joe, 5 Great Grandchildren Elise, Alexandra, Joey, Gab and Kari, three brothers Raymond Macey and his wife Helen of Bloomingdale, Larry Macey of Plattsburgh and Earl Macey of Beekmantown, three sisters Betty Riano and her husband Ray of Fort Meyers, FL, Rose Bell and her husband Ross of Central Square, and Eileen Miner of Washington State and many nieces and nephews , He was preceded in death by one grandson Shawn Gagnon.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday March 11, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Thursday March 12, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Church with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.
