In Loving Memory of Marjorie Mable (Spencer) Simpson
Marjorie Simpson, 88, of Saranac Lake, New York, passed away surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 12, 1937, in Bombay, New York, to Arline (Clary) Spencer, Marjorie spent much of her life in Saranac Lake, where she built a home, raised her children, and became a cherished part of the community.
Known fondly as “Marge” to many and “Maymo” to her family, she had a heart big enough to hold generations together. She leaves behind her loving sister, Joyce Peryer, and her children: Becky Paye, Marilyn Spencer, Tammy Beebe, Shawnee Sundby, Melissa Simpson, and John White. Marjorie was predeceased by her son, Robert Simpson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by her lifelong friend, Shirley Allen, whose friendship spanned decades.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Marge’s large and loving family of 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren carry her strength and kindness forward.
Marge retired in 1998 from the Harrietstown Housing Authority, where she was admired for her dedication, compassion, and tireless work ethic. In her earlier years in Saranac Lake, the smell of her homemade bread was a familiar comfort in town, a quiet reminder of her care for those around her. She enjoyed playing softball and spent many happy seasons bowling in a league with her daughters. She was also a champion billiards player in the 1970s, remembered for her steady aim and easygoing sense of fun.
A lifelong Yankees fan, Marge rarely missed a game and loved following golf and other sports, always keeping track of scores and players with enthusiasm. Later, she enjoyed line dancing, bingo, and trips to the casino, remaining active and full of life.
Even in her later years, Marjorie’s spirit never faded. She approached each day with gratitude, lightheartedness, and a deep appreciation for those she loved. Her family will remember her not only for her strength and perseverance but for the love she brought into their lives.
