Donna Mcginnis

Donna L. McGinnis, 74, of Saranac Lake, passed away Wednesday, January 19 surrounded by her family at Elderwood of Uilein at Lake Plaicd.

Donna was born on July 4, 1947 in Saranac Lake to the late James and Leona (Abare) Latour.

Donna was a 1966 graduate of St. Pius X High School. She worked many years at Saranac Lake General hospital as a passionate nurse’s assistant and at Adirondack Arc as a direct support professional ending her career at Sunmount Developmental Center before becoming disabled.

It seemed fitting that Donna was born on the 4th of July because she had a firecracker personality. She loved to laugh, could find humor in any situation, and enjoyed many funny interactions with family and friends. Donna loved to help others and was kind to everyone. She enjoyed meeting new people and would start a conversation with anyone and was a good listener who shared advice to family and friends. Donna loved animals. She rode horses growing up and participated in horse competitions. Donna was a talented cook and baker and loved to tend to her plants. Despite her disability, Donna continued to do the things she loved.

Donna is survived by her loving children, Thomas and Heather McGinnis. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth (John) Keach (Cicero NY), brothers James Latour III (Punta Gorda, Fl), David (Lisa) Latour (Brewerton NY) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her sister Katherine Wisher.

The family would like to send a special thank you for all the staff at Elderwood for the care they gave Donna and to all the health care personnel that helped her throughout her disability.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Calling hours will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday February 3rd, 2022 from 4pm to 6pm (mask are required no matter your vaccination status). Burial will be held in July in the family plot at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac
