Rev. John Mclaughlin

July 23, 1924 — April 5, 2023

The Rev. John N. McLaughlin, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, after a pilgrimage of over 98 years finally reached his home on Wednesday April 5, 2023.

Born in Bridgewater, MA, the son of Everett N. and Ellen Prophett McLaughlin.

Fr. McLaughlin was educated in Bridgewater schools. He was a Graduate of Northeastern University and taught mathematics at Worcester Academy. He entered the Episcopal Theological School in 1946 and Graduated in 1949 with a B.D. and M.Div. degree. Ordained as a Priest in the Episcopal Church, Fr. McLaughlin served parishes in Suffield, CT, and in Franklin, Weymouth, South Dartmouth, Newburyport, and Provincetown, Massachusetts.

He was active in the Councils of Churches and in hospital chaplaincy programs in the areas in which he served. A member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, Fr. McLaughlin served for two years as Elder.

Fr. McLaughlin was married for 71 years to the former L. Phyllis Ray of Franklin and Watertown, MA who predeceased him on July 1, 2021. They have three children: Nancy K. Nickerson of Florida; Wesley R. McLaughlin of Saranac Lake, and Mark B. McLaughlin of Boston, MA, who died on 1989. He has five grandchildren: David and Andrew Nickerson of Methuen, MA; Daniel Nickerson of Malden, MA; and Robert and Melina Mathers of Saranac Lake and three great grandchildren Lyra, Zeke, and Maisie Sauveur.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will take place at a later date to be announced at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake.
