Saranac Lake

Sandra Stone Crocker, a resident of Saranac Lake, died on October 9th at the Adirondack Medical Center after a long illness. She was 92 years of age.

Sandy, as she was known, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and also trained at Grace-New Haven School of Nursing in Connecticut. She worked for many years as a nurse and also as a nursing instructor in New Haven and Norwalk, Connecticut. In her later years, she chose to be in the vicinity of family members in New Jersey, Kansas City, and finally in Saranac Lake.

In addition to her profession as a nurse, she had a great interest in and deep knowledge of wine. She worked as a wine consultant and spoke enthusiastically and authoritatively on the subject.

Sandra Ruth Stone was born on April 2, 1934, the eldest of three children of Herbert H. Stone and Mildred (Schinzel) Stone of Madison, Connecticut. Sandy’s father was a dairy farmer and she worked the farm with her family in her early years. In 1959, she married Louis S. Crocker, Jr. and settled in Wilton, Connecticut. Her husband died in 2000; she is survived by a brother, David Stone, a daughter, Audrey Currie, a son, Louis Crocker, and four grandchildren, Timothy, Julia, Henry, and Hope.
