Helen Sprague

July 11, 1927 — February 9, 2016

Helen E. Sprague, 88, died with her family at her side Tuesday February 9, 2016 at Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake.

She was born the daughter of Conrad and Leila (Charland) Kern July 11, 1927 in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

She Graduated from Saranac Lake High School, and worked for New York Telephone Company.

She married the love of her life Stephen Gregory in 1948. He predeceased her at a young age in 1963, leaving her with three young children.

In 1974, she married Walter Allen "Skully" Sprague. Skully and Helen had twenty seven great years together. They had many close friends. They enjoyed each other's company spending time outdoors. Skully predeceased her in 2001.

She will be remembered for her 44 years of work at the Saranac Lake Free Library. Helen love her job at the library and was a very devoted and loyal employee.

She is survived by her children Stephen Gregory and his wife Linda of Shelburne, VT., Martha and her husband Dr. John Decker of Coreys, NY, George Gregory and his wife Mary of Saranac Lake, NY. Helen leaves eight grandchildren: Gina, Stephen, Kristie, Amy, John, Laura, Allison, Blake and eight Great Granddaughters, that she dearly loved. She also survived by her sister Marie (Kern) Law of South Burlington, VT., her sister-in -law Ruth Kern of Saranac Lake, NY., and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Carl Kern in 2009, and her brother-in-law Raymond Law.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At her request, there will be no public calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at North Elba Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to the Saranac Free Library.
