Sandra A. Walker, 77 of Saranac Lake passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2020 at her home under the care of High Peaks Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 19th, 1942 in Potsdam NY, to the late Eddy and Virginia Cayen. She graduated from Potsdam High School and went on to attend Bryant College in Rhode Island graduating in 1972 with her BS in business education. Sandy married Arthur F. Walker on April 14th, 1973 in South Colton, NY.

She started her teaching career at Saranac Lake Central School teaching business education for 26 years, retiring in 1998. She was a devoted wife and mother, dedicating her time to her children through the years as a volunteer with Pee Wee hockey, coaching her son’s t-ball team, and spent countless weekends traveling with her family for her son and daughter’s hockey teams. She herself played 2 years of hockey for the Saranac Lake Women’s hockey team. She enjoyed sewing and crafting; was part of the Whistle Stop craft store where she displayed her works and those, she crafted with her husband Art, she also volunteered her time to the Saranac Lake Free Library Fair. Sandy enjoyed traveling Florida with her husband and children during the 2-week spring breaks from school. She had a love for animals throughout the years, caring for countless rabbits, horses and dogs. She also greatly enjoyed dinners out with close family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Eddy and Virginia (Gonyeau) Cayen. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 47 years, Arthur F. Walker, two children: Jason A. (Cheryl) Walker of Plattsburgh NY and Rachel A. Walker of Saranac Lake, NY.

Sandy’s family would like to take a moment to thank the staff of Hospice of the North Country for their kind gentle touch in the care of Sandy.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, August 31st, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake, burial will be in South Colton at a time to be determined by family.

In lieu of flowers donations made be made to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society. Family and friends can sign the online guestbook, offer video condolences, and share their photographs and memories at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
