The man, the myth, the legend—William “Bill” R. Dann, 68 of Saranac Lake, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by immediate family.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 8, 1957, the son of Peter and Barbara (Grimm) Dann. Bill graduated from Saranac Central High School in 1975.

Bill was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections as an officer and Sergeant. He retired from Corrections in 2005. Since 2005, he has been a caretaker of a private camp on Upper Saranac Lake.

He loved to have a good time, to be outdoors and to tell a joke. He enjoyed watching all sports, but especially the Habs, Yankees & Jets! His happiest moments were spent with family, eating out, playing golf, vacationing on the beach, spending time with his grandkids, or relaxing in his recliner with his cats, Abby & Kona. Bill was known for his laughter, generosity, and larger-than-life personality, he made every moment brighter and every gathering unforgettable.

He’ll be deeply missed by his best friend and wife of 33 years, Kathleen (Munn) Dann, his children, Josh (Marcie) Dann and Vanessa (John) Pagan, his grandchildren, Connor, Sydney, Addison, Riley, Sophia & Quinlin, his siblings, Mike (Leslie), Sharron & Jim, the entire Dave/ Helen Munn Family and many nieces and nephews, who will all carry his love and stories with them forever.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be announced at a later date, offering family and friends the opportunity to gather, share memories and honor his life. Raise a glass, share a story, and celebrate a life well-lived.
